Areeg Khalil of Troy Honored for Academic Excellence at Hudson Valley Community College

Areeg Khalil was recently honored for excellence by an academic department at Hudson Valley Community College.

Each year, high-achieving students from the more than 75 academic programs at the Troy, NY college are chosen for special recognition.

Khalil was given the RPI Joseph H. Smith Jr. Award, which is given to the most outstanding student in the engineering science program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's affiliated community colleges. Generally, the award is presented to the qualifying transfer student with the highest cumulative grade point average. The awarded is handed out by the Mathematics and Engineering Science Department.

Students are selected for honors by faculty and departmental administrative staff.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 75 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and workforce and academic preparation programs offered through the Educational Opportunity Center. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of nearly 13,000 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has more than 75,000 alumni.
