Bethany Berzal of Catskill Earns Top Honor at Dental Hygiene Conference

2013 Nov 8

Bethany Berzal of Catskill, a student in the Dental Hygiene program at Hudson Valley Community College, represented the college at the Empire Conference for the Dental Hygienists' Association of State of New York, held on Long Island, Nov. 1-3.

Berzal was one of four senior students representing the college's Dental Hygiene program in the conference's student table clinics competition. Along with student partner Katie Harrington, the pair came in second place for its presentation, Effects of the Hookah on Oral Health.

Table clinics are a competitive educational presentation where students share information and research on a particular topic relevant to their field.

Both Hudson Valley student teams in the competition took home prizes in the competition, which saw them vying against Dental Hygiene students from other college programs across the state.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers 75 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 13,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 75,000 alumni.
