Bryce Kirk of Troy Earns 2017 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

2017 Apr 4

Bryce Kirk of Troy, a student at Hudson Valley Community College, was recently named as a recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.

Kirk, a Business Administration major who graduated in fall 2016, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for students at two-year colleges. During his first semester at Hudson Valley he was elected vice president of the Student Senate, and he was active in student government throughout his time at the college. Kirk was presented with the NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement Award while competing for the Hudson Valley bowling team and was also given the President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Service. He was also active in the college’s Engineering Science Club, Entrepreneur’s Club and Investment Club. He will continue his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence was created 20 years ago to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement.

This year, four students from Hudson Valley were recognized with this prestigious honor.

Each year, campus presidents establish a selection committee, which reviews exemplary members of their college communities who are graduating. Nominees are then forwarded to the Chancellor's Office and are subject to a second round of review. Finalists are then recommended to the Chancellor to become recipients of the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
