Jackson Lyons of Saratoga Springs is Named to Phi Theta Kappa All New York State Academic Team

2014 Apr 3

Hudson Valley Community College student Jackson Lyons of Saratoga Springs was recently named to the Phi Theta Kappa All New York Academic Team.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is a national honor society for students at two-year colleges. The college's Alpha Xi Sigma chapter recognizes scholarship, develops leadership, encourages service and cultivates fellowship among qualified high-achieving students. The All New York Academic Team showcases the best and brightest of these talented and hard working students in Phi Theta Kappa.

Lyons, who is studying Engineering Science, was one of 68 SUNY and CUNY students who received awards in 2014. He was recognized at a ceremony, Wednesday, April 2, at the Empire Plaza Convention Center.

"Students recognized by Phi Theta Kappa truly embody the power of SUNY," said SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. "As proven leaders and role models, scholar athletes, creative artists, and civic volunteers, each student is recognized not just for academic achievement, but also for the profound impact they have on college campuses and local communities across New York State. Congratulations to the Hudson Valley Community College students being recognized today."

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 75 associate degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and workforce and academic preparation programs offered through the Educational Opportunity Center. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of nearly 13,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has 75,000 alumni.
