2013 Apr 19

Hudson Valley Community College student Kristen Duke of Wappingers Falls was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for two-year institutions of higher learning.

Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is indicative of academic excellence. Those inducted are matriculated students who have met standards including a grade point average of 3.71 or higher.

Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is a highly coveted honor. Students eligible for membership must achieve a high cumulative grade point, be of good moral character, and possess recognized qualities of leadership. Induction into the chapter occurs in the fall and spring of each academic year. Scholarships to four-year institutions are available to Phi Theta Kappa members.

One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 13,250 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has more than 70,000 alumni.
