Stephen Pelletier of Petersburg Earns 2017 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

2017 Apr 4

Stephen Pelletier of Petersburg, a student at Hudson Valley Community College, was recently named as a recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.

Pelletier, who is studying Criminal Justice, is actively involved in clubs on campus, and serves as vice president for the Student Senate. In addition, he was involved in the Investment Club and the Foreign Language and Culture Club. A member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for students at two-year colleges, he plans on pursuing a law degree and working in the field of criminal justice as a litigator.

The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence was created 20 years ago to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement.

This year, four students from Hudson Valley were recognized with this prestigious honor.

Each year, campus presidents establish a selection committee, which reviews exemplary members of their college communities who are graduating. Nominees are then forwarded to the Chancellor's Office and are subject to a second round of review. Finalists are then recommended to the Chancellor to become recipients of the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
