Wayne Benson of Albany Receives Learning Centers Spirit Award at Hudson Valley Community College

Wayne Benson of Albany was one of the Fall 2015 recipients of the Learning Centers Spirit Award at Hudson Valley Community College.

The Learning Centers Spirit Award is given to students who demonstrate the learning strategies and habits associated with academic success acquired through continued use of the Learning Centers. These students are diligent in their use of academic support services and are noted for setting and pursuing their academic goals. Students may be nominated for the award by faculty, staff or fellow students.

Benson is studying in the Individual Studies academic program at the college.

The Learning Centers provide instructional support to Hudson Valley students and include the Computer Learning Center, Learning Assistance Center, the Writing and Research Center and the Collegiate Academic Support Program. Their goal is to help students build confidence and independence as they pursue their academic goals.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 75,000 alumni.
