More than 120 students from Hudson Valley Community College were recently inducted into the Alpha Xi Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for students at two-year colleges.

The college recently installed its annual class of inductees in the Alpha Iota Omega chapter of Kappa Delta Pi. KDP is the international honor society for students studying education and was founded in 1911 to foster excellence and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. Inductees must meet rigorous academic and leadership standards to be nominated. The college chapter of the honor society hopes to build a strong sense of community spirit among those studying in education fields at the college.

The Vikings women's tennis roster has been set for the Fall 2021 season. The women compete in Region III of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and are led by head coach Stevan Kuzman.

Justin Fernandez of Amsterdam, a second-year student in Hudson Valley Community College's Heating/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technical Services degree program is one of 21 students across North America to receive the Trane Technician of the Future Scholarship for 2021. Trane by Trane Technologies, a global climate innovator, is awarding $78,000 to students who are seeking a technical education as they prepare to enter the field of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) or Building Automation. Recipients were selected from a pool of finalists on the basis of academic performance, leadership and participation, long-term career and educational goals, financial need and other criteria. Recipients enrolled part-time receive $2,500 each; recipients enrolled full-time receive $4,000 each. Awards may be used for all education-related expenses. "Congratulations to each of the Trane Technician of the Future scholarship recipients," said Donny Simmons, president, Commercial HVAC Americas, Trane Technologies. "We are honored to help these aspiring technicians launch a successful career in the HVAC and building controls industry. We need more qualified technicians and operators with the right skills to grow and sustain the dynamic HVAC industry. This scholarship program is one of the many ways Trane is helping build the next generation of skilled workers who will make significant industry contributions in the years to come."
