Hudson Valley Community College Named a Military Friendly School for 2023
Troy, NY (03/16/2023) — Hudson Valley Community College was designated a gold-level Military Friendly School for 2023. The 2023 Military Friendly Schools list produced by Viqtory recognizes the top colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students and to ensure their success on campus.
Originally established as the Veterans Vocational School in 1953, Hudson Valley has a long tradition of assisting active duty personnel and veterans with benefits, counseling, academic support and specialized student services. The college now educates more than 400 student veterans and offers transfer credit for military experience, scholarships, tuition deferrals, dedicated study space, mentors, a student Armed Forces Club and a host of other services.
The college's Veterans Resource and Outreach Center (VET-ROC), launched ahead of the Fall 2021 semester, is the focal point for veterans and the military-connected community on campus. Located on the first floor of the campus center, it also houses the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Program of Rensselaer County, which offers non-clinical peer-to-peer support for any Rensselaer County veteran and works to help all Capital Region veterans reintegrate into civilian society.
"Hudson Valley is deeply committed to providing support services for our student veterans and active duty service members, as well as their families," said President Roger Ramsammy. "For 70 years, we have made it our mission to help members of our military-connected community achieve success in their college careers. We opened our Veterans Resource and Outreach Center to provide even more dedicated support and staff for our veteran and active duty students. We are proud to be of service to those who have served our country, and honored to be named as a Military Friendly School once again."
Active duty service members or veterans who wish to speak to someone at the college about their benefits may call (518) 629-4545. Those who wish to enroll in a degree or certificate program may call the Admissions office at (518) 629-7309. Now in its twelfth year, the Military Friendly Schools list sets the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans and their spouses. Institutions earning the designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey completed by the school. More than 1,700 schools participate in the annual survey to determine Military Friendly designees.
